I’m sure you have asked this question: “Where can I get a great chicken salad sandwich?” No? Well, even if you haven’t, let me tell you where I found the best chicken salad sandwich - the Ruebel Hotel in Grafton, IL. Now you are probably saying that you are not driving all the way to Grafton for a chicken salad sandwich. Fine. You’ll miss quite an expereince then. The Ruebel was built in the late 1800s, and it’s going through a new renovation that’s making it look amazing. Flat screens around the bar, new furniture, and an impressive wine and food list too. And that’s just the dining room! You can see more at http://www.ruebelhotel.com/ and judge for yourself. So, the next time you venture to Grafton check out the Ruebel and order the chicken salad sandwich - it will bring you back!

Thursday, June 11th, 2009I just want to share a great experience that my daughter, Kennedy, has had this summer. It’s a half day Discovery Camp at The Nature Institute in Godfrey. The program was about $100, which includes a shirt and other activity prizes, and Kennedy has loved it! Way cool for a 3-year-old - especially one with cochlear implants. In fact, she even was awarded a special lantern for being so helpful with some of the other campers. She’s had themed “adventure” days like “Buffalo and the Prairie”, “No Alligators Here”, and “Safari”. And tomorrow, my wife Sara and I get to join her for a “Bush Bash” and lunch. There are different camps for different age groups throughout the summer. You can find out more by going to http://www.thenatureinstitute.org/ Anyway, I just wanted to let you know about a summer activity that is fun and educational that’s just about a half hour from St. Louis.

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009What’s up with the gas prices? I’m noticing more and more that gas keeps going up. Yes, it’s not as high as last year, but come on! It’s getting closer and closer to $3 a gallon, but the price of a barrel is now where near the price it was when we were paying $4 a gallon. This is ridiculous. Mark my words, when the economy spirals downward again…unfortunately sooner than later now…These high gas prices will be the straw that broke the camel’s back. I just wish there was more that I could do than limitting my errands and the like. I’m finding out more and more that “Wall Street’s” Gordon Gecko was way wrong. “Greed” is not good. It’s going to devour us all if we are not careful.

Thursday, June 4th, 2009Congratulations again to Jen and Ryan on the birth of their little biy Finn! Now the fun really begins. As a relatively new dad myself (Kennedy is a little over 3 now) I can tell you that the one thing that they need now is SLEEP! Get it now because as they get older, they don’t wnat to! Grandparents are an invalueable asset too. Anyway, I can’t wait to see the little guy, and I hope Jen gets plenty of rest on her maternity leave - she’s going to need it!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009So we got on a subject today about “the dumb stuff you did as a kid that you don’t want your child doing.” I was a pretty good kid. I didn’t smoke, do drugs, or even drink illegally. I thank my parents and my friends love and understanding for that; however, I still did dumb stuff. One dumb thing that comes to mind can be summed up in three simple words: “Bottle Rocket Fight”. Why would I even think that shooting firecrackers at my friends couldn’t cause any serious harm? It’s only a small explosive for Pete’s sake! I even remember sawing a wiffleball bat in half to make the perfect launcher. My friends and I planned for weeks about who would be on who’s “army”, where the battle would take place, and what clothing would provide the best protection. It was going to great! Well, the battle lasted about ten minutes, before someone got injured. Weeks of planning ended because a “whistling chaser” caught a kid in the shoulder. Unfortunately, I was that kid. The mark eventually went away, but the pain of my stupidity lingers on. I only hope that my daughter is wiser for it.

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009So I got to ride Six Flags’ new “Wahoo Racer” slide at Hurricane Harbor the other day, and I’ve been asked “how was it?” Well, it’s a pretty fun ride as long as you follow the directions for riding on your “sled” to the letter. The lifeguard even offered extra instructions on ways not to injure yourself - not that you’ll really hurt yourself, but you could get a few bumps and bruises. The ride itself lasts about ten seconds, and you can go airborne a little, at speeds of 35 mph. It’s definitely worth checking out for yourself if you’re a fan of water slides. I enjoyed my ride, and I did not get sick like on previous “testing” ride occasions. In short, just another fun reason to enjoy a day at the Flags!

Thursday, May 21st, 2009We talked to Shawn Wayans today about “Dance Flick”, his latest movie comedy, and he was very nice. He’s very family oriented as proven by the closeness of the entire Wayans’ clan. They write, star, produce and work together on almost all of their films. That is really cool! I too am fortunate to have such ties with my family, especially my brothers. My mother raised us that “friends may come and go, but family is forever. You don’t choose family.” You also “don’t go against the family” but that’s the Corleone family motto and a story for another time. My brothers, Paul and Todd, are my best friends. In fact, they both were my Best Men at my wedding. So having a “band of brothers” is a blessed thing, and I’m glad the Wayans have been able to use their family ties to create some very funny stuff!

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009So tonight is the big night. Of course I’m talking about the “NCIS” season finale. Mark Harmon is great in that show, and don’t get me started on the guy from “Man from U.N.C.L.E.” It should be a great episode. Anyway, I’m sure the rest of you will be watching “American Idol”. I kind of fell off that show this year. I think it was the fourth judge and all. I don’t think it has “jumped the shark” yet, but it’s taking the speed boat out of dry dock at the very least. I’d like to see whoever wins get some success. That and some nice ratings for Fox’s “Glee”. It looks hilarious!

Monday, May 18th, 2009So I finally saw “Wolverine”, and it was pretty good. I guess I fall in line with the people who are like “why do you need this film?” I like the way it stays true to the other X-Men movies, but I was hoping for more character development I guess. I also don’t know if the rumors of a “Deadpool” movie will happen. His movie character doesn’t warrant one which is a shame because the comic book character is so well done. The whole cancer storyline alone is a movie. Anyway, if you’re a fan of X-Men franchise you’ll like it, but save your $7 for “Transformers 2 - Revenge of the Fallen”.

Thursday, May 14th, 2009The Wayan family, a very funny group of fathers and now sons I might add, were on the CBS Early Show this morning mostly talking about their new film “Dance Flick” which stars Damon Wayans, Jr. There’s a Damon Wayan’s, Jr.? And he’s 27? How old is Damon Wayans, Sr.? He’s almost 50 people! Not that age means anything, but I couldn’t beleive he is that old…And still looks a young as he does. Anyway, Marlon Wayans, who’s 36 for those of you keeping score, is in the new “G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra” movie, so maybe that is why I have an affection for the Wayans right now, I’m a huge “G.I. Joe” fan, but I digress. Age is really how old you feel, right? Does it matter that the original Kirk and Spock, William Shatner and Leornard Nimoy, are almost 80? No! What I want to know is how to look as good as Leornard Nimoy at 78! We talked to Karen Allen last year as she was promoting “Indiana Jones 4″ and she and her co-star Harrison Ford both look incredible for their ages of 57 (Allen) and 66 (Ford). Han Solo will turn 67 this July? It’s hard to believe. I guess there is really no point to this blog…You’ve probably realized that by now. I’m just trying to kill time before I pick my daughter up at school at 3! That’s 4 hours away! I’m hoping that the wait time helps me age well at least. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you on the radio. - Charles Osgood who’s a very handsome 76!
